Toole Design Group in Minneapolis, MN is looking to hire an experienced and talented full‑time Project Engineer
. The role focuses on roadway design and active transportation design. A Day in the Life of a Project EngineerProject Engineers who work on the civil design track deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure such as roadway reconstructions, streetscapes, and trail projects. Tasks include concept development, design review, bid package development, permitting, construction management, and the creation of construction documents. Engineers use AutoCAD and/or Micro Station.
Engineers on the transportation design track assist in creating signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, and traffic signal plans. They use Synchro, Highway Capacity Software, Micro Station, and AutoCAD. The work includes road diet analyses, multimodal traffic studies, roundabout studies, trail/roadway intersection studies, parking studies, and design guidance.
Work ScheduleThe full‑time position is 40 hours per week with a flexible schedule. Employees can work from home up to two days per week. The Minneapolis office is located in downtown Minneapolis.
Responsibilities- Participate in interdisciplinary teams to deliver multimodal transportation projects.
- Use AutoCAD, Micro Station or other design software to create production drawings.
- Manage project tasks from concept through construction.
- Prepare construction documents and cost estimates.
- Assist in the development of signing, marking, traffic signal, and parking plans.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering.
- Professional Engineering license preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in civil or transportation engineering.
- Knowledge of roadway geometry and industry standards.
- Proficiency with Micro Station (InRoads/Open Roads) and AutoCAD (Civil 3D).
- Experience coordinating utilities, right‑of‑way, lighting, signals, and landscape layout.
- Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates.
- Interest in multimodal and active transportation design.
- Strong leadership skills and enjoyment of multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Passion for sustainability and challenging projects that improve livable communities.
- Proficiency in producing high‑quality work products and seeing projects built.
- Excellent written, verbal, and graphical communication.
- Relationship‑building ability, enthusiasm, attention to detail, and strong problem‑solving skills.
