Job Description

We are seeking a talented Electrical Designer to develop electrical system designs for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and communication systems. You will generate design and detail drawings, including plans, sections, and isometrics, to support Discipline Leads. The role involves collaboration with a design team of engineers and drafters to produce complete drawing installation packages. You will create physical layout drawings, equipment details, conduit routing, grounding, and cable schedules, and generate wiring diagrams from electrical schematics.

This position requires managing and maintaining project documentation, and may involve serving as a lead for select single-discipline projects.

Responsibilities

+ Develop electrical system designs for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and communication systems.

+ Generate design and detail drawings, including plans, sections, and isometrics.

+ Collaborate with the design team of engineers and drafters to produce complete drawing installation packages.

+ Create physical layout drawings, equipment details, conduit routing, grounding, and cable schedules.

+ Generate wiring diagrams from electrical schematics.

+ Manage and maintain project documentation, including flat files, reference/stick files, and CAD drawings.

+ Serve as a lead for select single-discipline projects by estimating work hours, developing scopes of work, and maintaining quality processes.

+ Work with engineers on multiple projects to manage project hours and collaborate with other departments and suppliers.

+ Interact with clients to convey project design and identify scope changes.

+ Produce high-quality electronic documentation and design packages.

+ Support advanced facility projects from concept through delivery, ensuring accuracy and technical excellence.

+ Help drive consistency, quality, and innovation within company electrical design standards.

+ Collaborate with project teams in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Skills

+ 5+ years of drafting experience required in Revit MEP.

+ Electrical design experience in the consulting engineering space.

+ Proficiency in AutoCAD, Navisworks, Revit MEP, and Bluebeam.

+ Working knowledge of National Electric Codes, reference documents, and guides.

+ Strong ability to present designs and work independently.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Associate Degree in a technical discipline or related experience required.

+ Ideally applicable project experience within heavy industrial sectors such as industrial, chemical, F&B, and refineries.

+ Nice to have skills include Navisworks and laser scanning experience.

Work Environment

This role is part of a full-service Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Management firm located in Downers Grove, IL. The company has been in business for over 70 years and operates 8 offices across the country. The Downers Grove office houses approximately 100 employees across various disciplines. The electrical team includes 15 members across two departments. We are looking for local candidates who can commute to the Downers Grove office, with the team currently in-office three days a week (Tuesday - Thursday), although additional flexibility is available.

There is an option for fully remote work, particularly if the candidate is strong and may also consider positions in other offices (Cleveland, Pittsburgh). Projects focus on the heavy industrial sector, supporting chemical plants, refineries, agriculture, F&B, and pharmaceutical industries. The work environment is highly collaborative and team-oriented, with minimal travel involved.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Downers Grove, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $60.00/hr.
