Roadway Engineer – North Carolina

What You’ll DoDesign complex interstate geometrics and local road projects. Depending on experience, you may lead a design team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Roadway Design:
Take charge of the design and plan preparation for both highway and local road projects. - Quality Assurance:
Lead internal quality reviews to ensure that plans meet the highest technical standards. - Mentorship:
Provide guidance and feedback to junior engineers, helping them grow professionally. - Proposal Development:
Assist in preparing and negotiating project fee proposals. - Project Scheduling and Budgeting:
Prepare design schedules, construction cost estimates, and deliver staged project submittals on time and within budget. - Client Interaction:
Build and maintain strong client relationships through presentations and regular communication. - Scope and Change Management:
Recognize scope changes and assist with contract negotiations when necessary. - Team
Collaboration:
Work closely with a talented team of engineers, technicians, and administrative staff to successfully execute transportation projects.
Education and Experience
- BS in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited college or university.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina is required, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months.
- Proficiency in design, preparation, and delivery of roadway design plans (NCDOT design experience preferred).
- Familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA, and NCDOT standards.
- Experience with Micro Station, Open Roads Designer, and AutoCAD.
- Prior experience managing projects, including developing proposals and overseeing project timelines and budgets.
- Background in mentoring or managing teams, with the ability to collaborate effectively and independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients and team members alike.
