Summary of Job Description
CAPE is looking for a qualified Field Engineer I or Field Engineer II to join our Construction Services Team to serve as an on-site Project Quality Control (QC) Officer supporting a variety of field projects. This role serves as a jumping off point to the project management career path. While in this position, you will gain field experience that will poise you for entry to our project management track.
Typical duration in this position is 2 to 3 years, with potential transition to the project management career path based on performance.
The ideal candidate will provide field support in areas of technical expertise including QC, engineering design, evaluations and assessments, reports, process optimization and technical program development and implementation to support staff such as project managers, QC managers, engineers, CADD technicians, field technicians and technical writers. This position will implement site-specific QC plan requirements for the assigned project, including onsite inspections and documentation of daily inspections, testing and adherence to procedures, submittal review and approval, implementation of the 3-phase QC process, follow-up inspections and correction of deficiencies, attendance at meetings (kickoff, coordination, mutual understanding), and QC meetings.
In the event of a major deficiency, the position is authorized to stop work to prevent further non-conforming work and is responsible for documenting the deficiency, investigating causes, and coordinating resolution with the Project Manager and Project Superintendent. The Senior Engineers will provide support, coaching, and training. Note that downtime between field projects may occur and you will work from home during those periods, performing tasks such as training, plan/report writing, and support to other divisions as needed.
CAPE’s project scopes vary widely. Below are a few examples of recent project scopes of work:
- Multi-phase Superfund remedial action project including demolition of existing process buildings and construction of a new 450 GPM groundwater treatment facility designed to handle up to 475,200 GPD. Facility features include reinforced concrete foundations with vapor gas barriers, structural steel with masonry and insulated panels, EPDM roofing, fire suppression and alarm systems, and an emergency generator.
- Groundwater treatment plant construction to replace PFOS/PFOA/PFNA impacted treatment plant, for point of use drinking water during high demand. The system includes pre and post chlorination, green sand filtration and lime slurry dosing, contained within a 3,200 sq ft CMU building with a wooden truss roof and asphaltic shingles. Phase II Water Line Extension extended two municipal force mains 1,300 LF of open trenching and 275 LF horizontal directional drilling.
- Soil and groundwater remediation at a former disposal area, including targeted excavation and management of impacted soils, subsurface treatment systems installation and operation, in situ treatment of contaminated source areas, and erosion, sediment, and stormwater controls.
- Phased remedial design and construction with integrated stormwater management, including stormwater and sediment controls, temporary and permanent water management features, and restoration of disturbed areas after remediation.
Salary
$90,000 up to $120,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Travel
75-90% travel is required for this position. Downtime between field projects may occur with work from home during those periods.
