Project Controls Specialist - Data Center
Location: Houston, TX (Primarily On-Site)
Duration: Initial 6-Month Contract with Strong Potential for Extension
Position OverviewOur client is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to support a growing Project Management & Execution (PM&E) team responsible for engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup projects.
This role will be responsible for planning, scheduling, project controls, progress monitoring, forecasting, and coordination activities across multiple projects. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, construction personnel, and commissioning teams to support successful project delivery throughout the project lifecycle.
The position is primarily based in Houston, Texas. Some flexibility for remote work may be available depending on project requirements. Occasional travel may be required to support commissioning and startup activities.
Responsibilities- Develop, maintain, and update project schedules using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Support projects through various phases including FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
- Monitor schedule performance and identify critical path activities, risks, constraints, and opportunities for schedule improvement.
- Prepare schedule forecasts, progress updates, look-ahead schedules, and variance analyses.
- Support project controls activities including earned value reporting, schedule performance monitoring, and progress measurement.
- Coordinate schedule inputs with engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
- Analyze schedule impacts resulting from scope changes, delays, and project risks.
- Develop recovery schedules and mitigation plans when required.
- Participate in project review meetings and provide schedule and project controls updates to stakeholders.
- Assist project teams with planning, forecasting, and execution strategies.
- Generate project reports, dashboards, and schedule narratives for management review.
- Support commissioning and startup planning activities as projects progress into execution phases.
Required
- 5+ years of experience in project controls, planning, or scheduling.
- Strong proficiency with Primavera P6.
- Experience supporting EPC, EPCM, industrial, energy, manufacturing, or large capital projects.
- Strong understanding of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling.
- Experience with schedule forecasting, progress measurement, and reporting.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred
- Experience supporting commissioning and startup projects.
- Experience with FEED and detailed engineering phases.
- Experience using Microsoft Project.
- Earned Value Management (EVM) experience.
- Experience with project controls reporting and dashboards.
- Data center (preferred), industrial, oil & gas, chemical, energy, utility, or manufacturing project experience.
- Houston-based position with primary in-office presence.
- Potential for limited remote flexibility depending on project requirements.
- Occasional travel may be required to support project execution, commissioning, and startup activities.
