Overview
Felsburg Holt & Ullevig is looking to hire a full‑time transportation design engineer in our Greenwood Village Office. The candidate will work on a wide range of transportation‑related design projects, collaborating with various project managers.
Primary ResponsibilitiesIn our Mountain West Civil Group, this mid‑level engineer focuses on transportation design and plan production for multimodal corridors, roadways, highways, interchanges, and multi‑use trails for private, state, and municipal clients. Responsibilities include leading and managing roadway design, coordinating with other disciplines, mentoring junior engineers, and overseeing construction contract documents.
- Develop trail/roadway/intersection/interchange design criteria for final design and construction phasing. Use applicable federal, state, or municipal standards.
- Complete conceptual design layouts considering horizontal and vertical design for trails, roadways, highways, intersections, and interchanges.
- Develop conceptual design graphics and exhibits for planning documentation.
- Provide input for environmental study limits and historic resource impacts.
- Assist the project manager in determining data collection limits for survey, subsurface utility engineering, and geotechnical investigation for pavement and embankment design, and coordinate data collection efforts.
- Act as primary transportation design modeler using Civil3D and/or Micro Station/InRoads & Open Roads for design and modeling.
- Serve as roadway design lead, coordinating roadway elements with other disciplines and required environmental resource avoidance or mitigation, possibly with sub‑consultants.
- Oversee junior engineers and designers in production of roadway construction contract documents and overall plan sets.
- Assist the project manager in writing project special provisions and assembling specification packages.
- Maintain organized electronic records of roadway actions, design decisions, variances, and related correspondence.
- Collaborate with other design specialties to determine required right‑of‑way acquisition, permanent easements, and temporary construction easements.
- Oversee roadway quantity calculations by junior engineers or designers.
- Develop overall project cost opinions using current construction cost data and input from other specialties.
- Prepare agendas, exhibits, and meeting minutes for project meetings.
- Support adherence to FHU's Total Quality Management Program for roadway design.
- Help the project manager meet project schedules, staying within budget for roadway design tasks.
- Bachelor of Civil Engineering from an accredited four‑year college or university.
- 5 to 10 years of transportation engineering experience, including roadway, highway, interchange, trail, and/or transit design.
- Professional engineer licensed in the State of Colorado; if licensed elsewhere, must obtain Colorado PE license within six months of start date.
- Experience modeling, design, and plan production with Civil3D and/or Micro Station/InRoads/Open Roads.
- Experience developing roadway plans, specifications, and cost opinions.
- Ability to multi‑task several projects simultaneously while staying on budget and schedule.
- Proficiency in preparing technical reports and business correspondence with Microsoft Office applications.
Compensation Pay range: $90,000 – $115,000 annually, based on skills, qualifications, and experience.
