Summary
Engineering and Technical Resources unit provides engineering design and oversight of all capital projects within the Wastewater Treatment Division. The mission is to protect public health, enhance the environment, and recycle valuable resources for the Puget Sound region.
About the RoleCandidates will be involved in pump station upgrades, treatment plant upgrades, conveyance projects, and other capital‑construction activities. The position follows a hybrid work model that blends remote and in‑person work.
Responsibilities- Serve as Project Engineer on County design projects; coordinate design with other disciplines, reviews, and team members.
- Translate operational and maintenance requirements into design terms.
- Review consultant plans and specifications for conformity to County standards.
- Prepare public works procurement documents, cost estimates, and assist in permit acquisition.
- Stamp and sign engineering plans as a Professional Engineer.
- Review and approve shop drawings; manage contractor compliance and change orders.
- Review vendor proposals and construction plans from other agencies.
- Provide assistance with emergency repairs and coordinate with maintenance staff as needed.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or closely related engineering field.
- At least 8 years of engineering experience in project planning, design, and construction.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in Washington State, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hiring.
- Familiarity with water, wastewater, and/or industrial facilities and construction principles.
- Experience solving complex technical issues in a multi‑discipline environment.
- Ability to manage multiple, complex capital projects within established time frames and costs.
- Professional Engineer registration in Washington State, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hiring.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams for public bids or collaborative delivery.
- Experience with Wastewater Treatment Plant process planning or conveyance facilities such as pump stations or pipelines.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders including consultants, elected officials, the public, and County staff.
- Hybrid model: a mix of onsite work at 201 S. Jackson, Seattle, and remote work. Remote eligibility requires Washington residency within a reasonable distance to the work location.
- Full‑time position, 40‑hour work week. Exempt from overtime eligibility.
- Position represented by Technical Employees’ Association (TEA) – Wastewater Treatment Division.
