The Opportunity with Mc KinstryWe are currently seeking a Commissioning Specialist to join our PNW Technical Services team as part of a Hiring Our Heroes Skillbridge Fellowship. This is a great opportunity for a transitioning service member who enjoys solving problems in the field, collaborating with project teams, and helping bring mechanical systems to life. In this role, you’ll support commissioning activities that drive sustainability and energy efficiency goals for our clients such as optimizing existing system performance and identifying opportunities to improve HVAC performance on a commercial scale.
You’ll review design documentation, work closely with project teams, and help deliver the reports and system documentation that support successful project outcomes. Additional responsibilities may include:
- Ensure systems are installed correctly and perform as intended.
- Support system startup and testing activities, including developing and executing functional and performance tests.
- Create and manage commissioning project plans, procedures, and schedules for your projects.
- Maintain and use testing equipment while keeping accurate records and documentation.
- Partner with project teams to identify and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
- Review construction documents and as‑built drawings to ensure accuracy and alignment with the original design intent.
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support project success.
- Technical experience with mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems. IT system expertise also a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a range of project stakeholders.
- Familiarity with system performance verification is helpful.
- A degree in mechanical or electrical engineering—or equivalent hands‑on experience—is valued.
- A few years of relevant experience is preferred, but we’re most interested in candidates who are curious, collaborative, and eager to learn.
