Job Summary
The responsibility of this role is to provide intermediate‑level site EHS expertise to assigned business units, support the field safety team, and partner with the EHS function to implement the global EHS management system.
The Role Aims To Accomplish The FollowingSupport sites in executing various EHS processes, including EHS‑related training, environmental compliance, occupational health and safety, workers’ compensation, transportation safety, contractor management, and business continuity; identify, assess, and control workplace hazards; and escalates resistance or challenges to leadership for problem solving.
Duties And Responsibilities- Execute injury prevention programs and initiatives to motivate and influence the creation of a world‑class safety culture while minimizing injury risk.
- Identify, assess, and control site‑level hazards and support supervisors and line leaders in incident investigation, producing detailed reports with root‑cause analysis.
- Manage compliance training programs required by regulatory agencies and Sysco policy; identify gaps and opportunities based on injury trends, KPIs, and risk assessments.
- Support the workers’ compensation claims process by completing OSHA determinations, addressing gaps in claims management, and promoting safe and early return to work and related claims requirements.
- Partner and collaborate with functional leaders to influence and help manage EHS resources, projects, and business decisions.
- Provide input on the design of standardized safety systems, policies, training, campaigns, and programs to reduce corporate and human capital risk while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, and support environmental compliance and claims programs.
Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in EHS, risk management, safety/industrial/quality/environmental engineering or a closely related field.
Education PreferredMaster’s degree with major coursework in EHS, risk management, safety/industrial/quality/environmental engineering or a closely related field.
Experience Required3+ years of EHS program management experience with large national or multi‑national companies having multiple sites.
Experience Preferred3‑6 years of progressive EHS program management experience with large national or multi‑national companies with multiple sites.
Licenses/Certification RequiredAssociate Safety Professional (ASP) designation or ability to acquire the designation within one year.
Licenses/Certification PreferredCertified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or other professionally recognized certifications such as ISO 14001 or ISO 45001.
TechnicalSkills And Abilities
- Strong background and knowledge of federal, state, provincial, and local EHS requirements and industry standards/best practices, with the ability to learn quickly.
- Proficiency in researching regulatory and company requirements and summarizing them in clear, plain language.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively influence all levels of management, employees, customers, and union members.
- Understanding of culture‑building practices and strategy.
- Drive performance and solve problems, ensuring projects reach completion.
- Confidence to seek support when faced with resistance, budgetary limitations, or conflicts.
- Ability to coordinate planning and collaboration with other business functions for mutual benefit and continuous improvement.
- Drive a strong EHS philosophy and implement programs designed to change behavior and prevent injury using data and research‑driven methods.
- Analyze and independently resolve complex situations with timely decision making.
- Adapt to and initiate change in the organization.
English required; bilingual Spanish highly valued.
Physical DemandsAbility to sit, stand, drive, travel by air, walk, use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone for 8 hours a day; frequently sit and reach with hands and arms; occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds. Travel RequirementsMust be able to travel to Sysco facilities in the U.S. up to 50% of the time.
Work Environment- Must utilize office equipment such as desktop or notebook computers, copiers, printers, scanners, telephones, and calculators.
- The noise level is usually moderate.
- Must work in various indoor, outdoor, freezer, and cooler climates and driving conditions for 24‑hour, 7‑day operations.
- Occasional work from home.
