Structural Project Engineer
BETA Group, Inc is looking to bring on a Structural Project Engineer to join our growing team. This role will help expand the structural team and lead bridge and culvert projects for MassDOT, RIDOT, and other state agencies. Additionally, the engineer will design structures for municipalities, oversee contract plans and documents, and mentor junior staff. This position offers a wide variety of opportunities to broaden your skillset and gain valuable experience.
PreferredLocation & Work Schedule
Preferred location is BETA’s Norwood, MA office, but candidates should be flexible to work from other office locations. BETA offers a hybrid schedule allowing employees to request remote work up to 2 days per week.
Responsibilities- Prepare bridge and structural design documents, including calculations, AutoCAD plans, specifications, and quantities.
- Provide technical engineering expertise to project managers and clients to ensure compliance with engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions.
- Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work.
- Analyze new and existing concrete dams, arch dams, buttress dams, spillways, powerhouses, intake towers, penstocks, dam gates, and similar structures for stresses, stability, and performance under extreme loads.
- Develop and evaluate alternatives for new facilities and upgrades to existing projects.
- Complete detailed design calculations and prepare contract documents and technical specifications.
- Prepare formal written reports, give presentations, and participate in internal and client meetings.
- Coordinate plans, schedules, and detailed phases (scopes of work, budgets, and milestones) of assigned project work.
- Engage junior staff by piloting structural inspections with field crews.
- Collaborate across internal disciplines and office locations.

- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
- Massachusetts or Rhode Island Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 8+ years of bridge design or related engineering experience.
- MASSDOT/RIDOT design experience.
- Strong background in structural analysis and theory.
- Strong technical and critical thinking skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong AutoCAD skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Enthusiasm to learn and willingness to take on responsibility.
- Willingness to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow).
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Finite element analysis skills.
- Culvert experience.

Salary$89,000-$116,000 or commensurate.
