A Senior Spacecraft Systems Engineer responsible for leading the development, verification, and testing of Planet's next-generation satellite platforms, ensuring they meet technical requirements and customer needs across multiple engineering domains.
Key Responsibilities- Lead development, verification, and testing of next-generation satellite platforms across multiple domains.
- Guide an engineering team through requirements formulation, design, integration, assembly, and testing phases.
- Coordinate with product, manufacturing, and mission operations teams to ensure satellite systems meet customer needs and are ready for mass production.
- Define subsystem interfaces, system budgets, and perform multidisciplinary design trades.
- Develop and execute validation and verification plans, including environmental and functional testing.
- Troubleshoot during satellite assembly, integration, and testing, and implement lessons learned.
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar
- 6 years of experience in the design and development of satellite systems
- Understanding of one or multiple satellite subsystems, including Mechanical, Thermal, ADSCS GNC, Propulsion, or Electrical
- Familiarity with requirements formulation, validation, and verification best practices
- Experience with vehicle testing, including both functional and environmental testing
- Experience collaborating with technical teams
- Excellent communication skills for exchanges with vendors, contractors, and customers
- Position requires access to export-controlled information, and employment or hiring of a contractor is contingent upon the candidate's ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls
