OSP Construction Project Engineer
Lumos is seeking a full-time OSP Construction Project Engineer to lead Outside Plant (OSP) construction and installation activities within a defined market. The role involves building relationships with subcontractor partners, tracking projects for safe, on-time completion within budget, and ensuring alignment with organizational standards for safety and quality. The position requires frequent onsite presence and residence within commuting distance of the assigned market.
Responsibilities- Builds and maintains relationships with local subcontractors and partners to manage OSP crews’ activity, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Tracks crew progress and reports updates to internal teams, delivering critical information to help leadership understand real-time progress.
- Monitors OSP subcontractor crews to maintain a safety culture at worksites.
- Ensures OSP subcontractor crews comply with NESC code for aerial construction.
- Collaborates with internal teams on materials forecasting, scheduling, and related activities.
- Coordinates with internal and external teams on all permit needs.
- Maintains compliance with safety regulations to uphold a strong safety record.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including departmental and cross-functional projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and influencing abilities.
- Proven project management experience with multiple concurrent projects across a geographic area, including travel, onsite, and remote work as required.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA rules, site safety, National Electric Safety Code (NESC) requirements, and related telecommunications regulations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic with timely, proactive communication and the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
- 5+ years of technical experience in OSP Engineering, Construction, or Operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred. - Valid, fully unencumbered Driver’s License required.
- Proactive, independent, and able to take initiative to stay on-task and on-target.
- Fiber or telecom industry experience essential.
- Frequent walking and standing at construction worksites in outdoor environments.
- Appropriate clothing and footwear to maintain safety.
- Occasional sedentary periods involving computer use.
- Regular use of sight, hearing, speech, and cognitive reasoning.
