This is a hybrid position working from the field and from a home office. We are looking for Civil and Structural Engineers experienced in residential and commercial structures.
Responsibilities- Perform investigations and analysis of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to resolve claims and legal matters.
- Execute forensic assignments within the field of civil engineering based on a scope of work and budget prepared by the consultant and agreed upon by the client.
- Conduct field investigations to study and determine the cause and origin of construction defects or structural failures.
- Prepare oral and written reports documenting causes of failure, extent of loss, repair scope, and recommended remediation; provide expert testimony in litigation matters.
- Manage multiple projects and coordinate with other experts and support to produce client reports in a timely manner.
- Ensure procedures are followed and verify safety features of projects during completion.
- Use a variety of tools and applications, including chemical testing, drafting and design software, electrical testing devices, land surveying techniques, and others.
- Follow land use laws and regulations.
- Supervise or evaluate the performance of associate team members as required.
- Initiate, develop, and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.
- Gather photographic evidence, conduct investigations, oversee field testing, and review historical documentation.
Skills and Abilities
- High analytical skill; continual attention to detail; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Effective communication with clients at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer‑assisted engineering and design software.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical reports, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to write scopes of work, budget estimates, schedules, reports of findings, proposals, and other technical documents.
- Ability to respond to inquiries from internal and external clients and present information to senior management, clients, and public groups or boards of directors.
- B.S. in Civil Engineering required (or higher).
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
- 2–10+ years of experience.
- Project Management and/or Field Investigation experience preferred.
- Additional licenses or certifications may be required depending on location.
- Work performed in office and at client sites, requiring climbing ladders, walking on roofs, and operating within space‑limited areas; a tight‑fitting respirator may be required.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Work schedule:
8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday, with one hour lunch; overtime may be required to meet deadlines. - Travel: up to 50% field work; 0–5% out‑of‑area and overnight travel may be required; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
