Systems Engineer
TEKsystems is seeking a Remote Network Engineer for our Alaska based client. This position will sit 100% remote, working typical Alaska business hours 7‑4 / 8‑5 AKT Monday – Friday. This role is equivalent to a senior Network Engineering position and will be responsible for engineering planning, design, equipment evaluation, project management, installation specifications, and test & acceptance for existing and advanced networks to ensure cost‑effective enhancements and upgrades to meet network requirements.
The engineer shall work in close collaboration with Inside Plant Engineering group, Network Planning, Outside Plant Engineering, and Operations. This position will be self‑directing, relies on extensive experience to accomplish tasks, and has a wide degree of creativity and latitude. Expectations are to help direct the work of the engineering group and provide guidance to the work group’s development.
Responsibilities- Main responsibility will be writing technical work orders with clear goal, vision and detailed step‑by‑step instruction to complete complex work
- Architecture, implementation and managing Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN network solutions
- Monitoring and maintaining new and existing BGP peering for Internet traffic
- Designing and implementing new DIA / IP‑Transit services
- Basic understanding for FTTH / DSL to deploy and support dual‑stack subscriber management
- Implement and support QoS based converged data / voice network
- Support Solarwinds and various industry leading NMS for 24×7 NOC monitoring and integrity of core network / services
- Strong team‑player attitude to communicate / collaborate / support multiple teams
- Willing to work on‑call troubleshooting with other team members and network techs
- Able to evaluate, analyze and validate new technologies with carriers / vendors
- Grow and educate junior / entry level network engineers
- Create and maintain complete technical documentation
- Help drive and support automation for complex processes / workflows
- Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability
- Should be able to multitask with multi‑project assignments
- Active JNCIP‑SP certification preferred.
- 5+ years experience in network planning, design and implementation.
- Extensive knowledge of routing, switching and firewall systems.
- Advanced technical experience of OSPF, ISIS, BGP and MPLS.
- Technical understanding of Juniper / Ciena hardware and configurations.
- Familiarity with WDM Transport systems.
- MEF standard‑based service for Layer 2 and Layer 3 Circuits.
- QoS and Firewall Policy for scalable deployment.
- Access transport and service technology (FTTH, VoIP, Pseudowire T1 and DSL).
- Segment routing and traffic engineering.
- Application servers (DHCP, DNS, radius, and LDAP) to support various services.
- AC / DC power systems.
