This is a hybrid position involving field work and a home office. We are looking for Civil and Structural Engineers experienced in residential and commercial structures who reside in the state of Hawaii.
The role provides forensic consulting services requiring Civil Engineering expertise for insurance, legal, industrial, and other clients. Responsibilities include assessing the cause and origin of structural failures, water intrusions, foundation damage, roof damage, retaining wall failures, wind and earthquake damage, and other construction defects. The engineer will prepare oral and written reports, provide expert testimony when needed, and manage multiple projects.
Responsibilities- Investigate and analyze residential, commercial, and industrial properties to resolve claims and legal matters.
- Conduct forensic assignments based on scope of work and budget agreed with the client.
- Perform field investigations to determine the cause and origin of construction defects or structural failures.
- Prepare oral and written reports documenting causes of failure, extent of loss, repair scope, and recommended remediation; provide opinions and expert testimony in litigation.
- Manage multiple projects and coordinate with other experts to produce timely client reports.
- Ensure procedures are followed and safety features are inspected during project execution.
- Use various equations and applications, including chemical testing, drafting and design software, electrical testing devices, land surveying techniques, and more.
- Follow land use laws and regulations.
- Supervise and evaluate associate team members as required.
- Initiate, develop, and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.
- Gather photographic evidence, conduct investigations, oversee field testing, and review historical documentation.
Skills and Abilities
- High level of analytical skills; attention to detail and ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
- Effective communication with clients at all levels.
- Knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office and engineering/design tools.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical reports, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to write scopes of work, budgets, schedules, reports of findings, proposals, correspondence, and other technical documents.
- Respond promptly to inquiries from internal and external clients and present information to management, clients, public groups, or boards of directors.
- B.S. in Civil Engineering (or higher).
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- 2-10+ years of experience.
- Project Management and/or Field Investigation Experience preferred.
- Other licenses or certifications may be required depending on location.
- 5% overnight travel; 50% field travel.
