Job Description & How to Apply Below

Taylor Engineering is seeking a motivated entry-level (civil, coastal, environmental, water resources, or other relevant degree) to join our nationally recognized floodplain mapping team onsite in Jacksonville, Florida supporting efforts to reduce flood risk and protect communities. You’ll receive real-world training in hydrology, hydraulics, and GIS, while helping shape the maps that inform disaster planning, insurance, and infrastructure decisions across the U.S.

This is more than a job — it’s an opportunity to be mentored by top coastal and water resource professionals, contribute to high-impact national work, and build a meaningful, long-term career.

Due to federal contract requirements, only U.S. citizens will be considered for this position. Candidates on student and/or work visas or other authorizations (e.g., OPT, H1B, Green Cards/permanent residency) are not eligible.

As a Coastal or Water Resources Engineer, you’ll work with experienced engineers and scientists to:

  • Review Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) requests to evaluate proposed changes to flood hazard data.
  • Analyze hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) and/or coastal models for technical soundness.
  • Contribute to model development, mapping support, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with NFIP technical standards and other governmental regulations.
  • Communicate your findings clearly in written reports and with project stakeholders.
  • Learn industry-standard tools and contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven team.
  • Grow your career.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Coastal, Environmental Engineering (or a related field) with a focus in water resources and/or engineering water and/or coastal hazard modeling.
  • 0–5 years of experience in civil, coastal, and/or water resources or related engineering.
  • EIT certification preferred (or in progress), with the goal of obtaining PE licensure.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen (required for federal work).
Preferred Candidate Characteristics
  • Familiarity with H&H modeling tools like HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-RAS 2D, FLO-2D, SWMM, ICPR, or MIKE series tools and/or coastal modeling tools like ADCIRC, CSHORE, or WHAFIS.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS / ArcGIS Pro.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Curiosity, teamwork, and a desire to build technical depth in water and/or coastal modeling.
Benefits
  • Medical and dental at no cost to the employee.
  • Vision coverage.
  • Group life insurance.
  • Medical leave.
  • Short- and long-term disability.
  • Accrued paid leave.
  • 401k.
  • Licensure, training, continuing education, and tuition reimbursement.
  • Participation in the Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP).
  • Flextime scheduling and work from home options.
  • Seven paid holidays and two floating holidays.
  • Wellness incentives and monthly fitness reimbursement.
  • Health savings account and flexible spending account options.
