Alta is looking for a Senior Civil Engineering Project Manager to join our team at our headquarters in Portland. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who believes in the importance of active, multimodal, and sustainable transportation.

In this role, you will work on the design of a variety of sustainable transportation projects and work on projects focused on making a positive impact on communities around the Pacific Northwest and across the country. Engineers who enjoy working closely with other disciplines will appreciate our Portland team’s multi‑disciplinary approach that encourages collaboration with our planners, landscape architects, graphics designers, outreach specialists, and data analysts.

Our Senior Civil Engineering PM will be involved in fostering livable communities across the country. Projects include natural surface trails, large arterial multi‑use paths, Complete Streets, and regional/multi‑state bicycle and trail networks.

• Managing a variety of transportation projects from design through construction. Drive the success of engineering projects and provide influence to the sustainable projects we work on. Manage project budgets.
• Implementing best practices and process improvements to enhance project delivery efficiency and effectiveness.
• Mentoring staff and contributing to internal professional development and training of the technical engineering team.
• Providing leadership and technical expertise to the Engineering team and collaborating with other disciplines such as planning, landscape, and data as needed.
• Preparing schedule, budgets, and scope of services for projects.
• Balancing workload.
• Supporting regional leaders in business development.
• Providing quality control over team deliverables.

• 12+ years of experience as a Transportation Engineer in a consulting environment or public entity; 5+ years as a Project Manager; 3+ years managing staff.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) license or TE (Traffic Engineer) licensure.
• Experience in, and knowledge of, the field of active, non‑motorized transportation.
• Demonstrated understanding of and experience preparing Plans, Specifications and Estimates packages for roadway projects and a detailed understanding of project management principles, methods and techniques.
• Ability to guide staff members and manage internal team expectations.
• Exhibits strong initiative and ability to capitalize on opportunities to enhance Alta’s position in the marketplace.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, multiple simultaneous projects involving cross‑functional project teams within budgetary and schedule constraints.
• Ability and willingness to travel.
• Excellent professional ethics, leadership skills, accountability, and decision‑making capabilities.
• Good presentation skills.
• Working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, MS Project or equivalent.
• Proficiency in civil engineering software: GEOPAK, InRoads, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Open Roads Designer, Micro Station, InRoads, etc.
• Proficiency in an enterprise‑wide resource planning and project management tool.

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field of study.
• Experience managing large projects for both private and public clients.
• Experience using Deltek VantagePoint.
• Active participation in industry‑relevant professional associations and committees.

The pay range for this job in Portland is $140,000-$170,000 annually. Placement within the range is based upon experience, skill‑sets, and qualifications.
