Senior Estimator – Water​/Wastewater Details | Family of Companies

Job Summary

The Senior Estimator is responsible for the preparation of detailed cost estimates for a diverse client base including municipal, government, and private clients. Project types include water and wastewater treatment facilities, pipeline conveyance, heavy civil and structural projects, dams and hydro facilities, tunnel construction, waterway, and marine construction.

• Primary accountability for estimate compliance for each project.
• Prepare complete and accurate cost estimates.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for estimates, including assigning crews and productivity for each discipline.
• Review all scopes to ensure compliance with the project documents.
• Ensure the estimate content is complete, accurate, and meets project location and design plan requirements.
• Work with design teams to understand the complexity, size, and process systems required for the project.
• Provide technical advice and assistance to design teams for all levels of estimates, from simple factored estimates to multi‑billion‑dollar lump sum bids.
• Effectively manage multiple projects and estimate timelines.
• Coordinate with design, operations, and procurement teams on project status, requirements, and due dates.
• Communicate with the estimating team at all stages of the project, including time limits and required support.
• Appraise overall accuracy of estimates and recommend contingencies for lump sum bids, defined estimates, and interim control estimates.
• Assist the solution team leader with independent assessment of an estimate’s accuracy upon completion and summary of all detailed man‑hours, materials, construction, and home office costs.
• Ensure orderly flow of project assignments within the area, maintaining schedules and budgeted hours.
• Direct, train, and develop subordinates or junior estimators.
• Proactively support, encourage, and facilitate staff engagement in continuous improvement activities.
• Plan, coordinate, review, verify, and analyze all aspects of estimates and their presentation.
• Assist in planning and development of formal training programs to maintain and improve estimating techniques, procedures, and capabilities for new and experienced personnel.
• Maintain familiarity with estimating and cost engineering developments outside the company, assess their significance, and suggest application where warranted.
• Identify and assess improvement opportunities that add value.

• Perform other administrative, supervisory, and technical duties as assigned.
• Assist in maintaining the company estimating database.

• Minimum of 8‑10 years of estimating experience required.
• BS or MS graduate in Construction Management or related field experience preferred but not required.
• Cost control and scheduling exposure is a plus.

• 8 to 20 years of relevant experience, including some estimating experience.
• Field and/or project experience.
• Completion of pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle record search, in compliance with applicable laws.

• Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment, based on manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments.
• Approximately 10‑20% travel required.

The annual compensation ranges vary by state or jurisdiction:

• California: $153,709 – $260,676
• Colorado: $147,026 – $220,572
• Illinois: $147,026 – $220,572
• Massachusetts: $160,392 – $240,624
• Minnesota: $140,343 – $210,546
• New York: $167,075 – $250,650
