Role Overview
This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with leading AI labs on an innovative initiative aimed at creating realistic enterprise environments for training and evaluating frontier AI agents. As an Environmental Science Expert, you will leverage your extensive experience in environmental assessment, compliance, remediation, or sustainability to construct a high‑fidelity digital workspace that reflects the tools, files, and workflows of a professional environmental‑science practice.
Key ResponsibilitiesBuild a realistic digital workspace based on the Drive folders you utilize daily, including site assessment reports, permit applications, monitoring data summaries, environmental impact statements, sustainability/ESG disclosures, remediation workplans, and relevant email threads.
Design multi‑step tasks that are grounded in your actual workflows, requiring navigation through multiple applications, files, and stakeholders to effectively challenge frontier AI agents.
Collaborate with fellow environmental‑science experts to design the environment, shape task scope, and review scenarios for realism and rigor.
Work asynchronously with research teams to refine task designs and establish evaluation criteria for environmental‑science agent benchmarks.
Contribute to cutting‑edge AI research and benchmarking, with your work directly influencing how leading labs train and evaluate the next generation of AI systems.
Ideal QualificationsMS/PhD in environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline is a plus.
3+ years of full‑time experience at a federal/state environmental agency, major environmental consulting firm, F5Ð sustainability team, or R1 university.
Experience in areas such as environmental assessment and compliance (NEPA, CWA, CAA, RCRA, CERCLA), air, water, or waste permitting and monitoring, contaminated‑site investigation/remediation, corporate sustainability, ESG reporting, GHG accounting (GHG Protocol, CDP, TCFD, SEC climate rule), ecology, natural‑resource management, or climate‑risk analysis.
Proficiency in Esri ArcGIS/Google Maps Platform, SAS/MATLAB, and Socrata/Esri ArcGIS Hub.
Strong analytical thinking and writing skills, with the ability to translate environmental workflows into structured task specifications.
Compensation NoteThis project will initially offer an effective hourly rate, transitioning to a compensation model based on the throughput of quality work rather than a flat hourly rate.
