About this RoleFiber Tel is hiring a Pre‑Sales Engineer for our San Jose, CA location.
A Pre‑Sales Engineer specializing in fiber‑optic telecommunications who partners with sales, engineering, and construction teams to design, validate, and price fiber network solutions. Provides technical expertise for OSP (aerial & underground) and ISP environments, ensuring proposed builds are feasible, cost‑accurate, and aligned with customer requirements and industry standards.
Pay: $25-35/hr, DOE
What You'll DoResponsibilities:
- Technical Solution Design — Develop high‑level fiber network designs, including route selection, fiber counts, splice points, and construction methods for aerial and underground OSP builds.
- Feasibility Assessments — Conduct desktop and field evaluations to determine constructability, pole availability, duct capacity, and environmental or permitting constraints.
- Cost Modeling & Estimation — Prepare detailed cost estimates, BOMs, labor breakdowns, and construction budgets for proposed fiber builds.
- Customer Engagement — Participate in customer meetings to gather requirements, present technical solutions, and provide expert guidance on fiber architecture and deployment options.
- Field Walks & Site Surveys — Perform on‑site assessments to validate routes, identify obstacles, and confirm aerial/underground construction methods.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration — Work closely with OSP engineers, construction managers, permitting teams, and GIS/CAD groups to ensure proposed solutions are accurate and executable.
- Documentation & Deliverables — Produce high‑level designs (HLDs), route maps, technical proposals, and engineering summaries for customer bids and RFP responses.
- Risk & Compliance Review — Identify potential construction risks, permitting delays, and regulatory requirements impacting project scope or timeline.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred
- Experience working with telecommunication providers in the Bay Area
- Strong communication and customer‑facing skills
- Ability to translate technical concepts into business‑friendly language
- Ability to accurately model costs and risk assessment
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, and applicable Engineering programs.
- Good Written and oral communication.

Working Conditions: This job operates in both office and field environments with occasional exposure to noise and other hazards. This job routinely uses standard office equipment. Occasionally spend time outside the office when meeting clients or need to check on vehicles.
