PositionSummary
The Senior Packaging Specialist – Sustainability and Compliance is responsible for defining and implementing sustainable packaging solutions, supporting sustainability data reporting (EPR, PPWR), collaborating with cross‑functional partners to develop a packaging project pipeline, and providing technical support to operators and supervisors. The role requires high responsibility, cross‑functional collaboration, decision‑making, and leadership.
LocationThis position will be either remote or hybrid based on the selected candidate’s geographic location. Preference will be given to applicants who live within a commutable distance of Bohemia, New York.
Key Responsibilities- Act as a packaging subject‑matter expert to support sustainable packaging initiatives leading to renovations, new product introductions, productivity gains, higher quality, and cost improvements.
- Collaborate and provide packaging sustainability data for local and global reporting (EPR, PPWR, etc.).
- Deliver results together with Regulatory, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality/R&D, and Sales/Marketing to manage the material qualification process.
- Provide front‑line support to factories, ensuring knowledge transfer related to packaging mastership to eliminate root‑cause assistance requests.
- May be assigned as project manager on specific projects as needed.
- BS or MS degree in Food Science, Materials Science, Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 7+ years of relevant packaging industry experience in the food and beverage sector.
- Strong understanding of packaging sustainability requirements locally and globally.
- Clear understanding of packaging design, materials, equipment, and systems.
- Working knowledge of project life‑cycle deliverables, contracts, and schedules.
- Understanding of regulatory compliance and food safety industry standards.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to influence and drive alignment among teams.
- Ability to convey complex and detailed information to diverse audiences.
- Strong administrative and computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve issues promptly and formulate action plans.
- Demonstrated project management experience as project leader and cross‑functional team participant, managing multiple projects.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑performing environment.
