We are seeking a seasoned Water Resources Design Engineer to join a growing, award winning civil and environmental engineering firm, leading the planning and design of water and wastewater treatment, pumping, storage, and distribution/collection infrastructure. This hybrid role, based in northern New Jersey (Morris and Sussex Counties), focuses on delivering high quality, compliant designs, supporting regulatory permitting, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to a fast paced project portfolio that protects public health and the environment.
ResponsibilitiesDesign & Engineering: Plan and design water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, storage facilities, and distribution and collection systems in accordance with AWWA, ASCE, NSF/ANSI standards, and applicable regulations, including the Clean Water Act (CWA) and Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). Integrate client needs, operability, and constructability into all designs.
Feasibility & Planning Studies: Perform feasibility studies for water resources projects, incorporating hydraulic, process, and environmental evaluations and analyses in accordance with EPA and NJDEP guidelines to develop optimized, cost-effective solutions.
Technical Documentation: Prepare engineering calculations, engineering reports, technical specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents that conform to NJDEP regulations, NPDES permitting criteria, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Site Investigations: Conduct site inspections and field assessments to support design and construction phase efforts and ensure designs are implemented in compliance with NJDEP, EPA, and local environmental standards.
Regulatory Coordination & Compliance: Lead and support regulatory permitting efforts, ensuring full compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, including NJPDES permits, Treatment Works Approvals, and Bureau of Water System Engineering requirements.

Collaboration:
Coordinate and collaborate with internal multidisciplinary teams (Structural, Civil, MEP) as well as vendors and subcontractors to deliver integrated, high-quality project solutions.Project Delivery: Manage technical scope, budgets, and schedules, contributing to the company’s continued growth and expanding project portfolio.
Mentorship & Team Development: Mentor and support junior engineering staff, sharing technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and design procedures to strengthen the Water Resources practice.
Sustainability & Best Practices: Incorporate energy and water efficiency measures, life-cycle cost analysis, and sustainable design principles as recommended by EPA and national water resources planning guidelines.
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
6+ years of experience in water resources or water/wastewater engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or on track to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
Strong knowledge of NJDEP regulations, permitting processes, and relevant federal standards (EPA, CWA, SDWA).
Experience with AutoCAD and technical report writing.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites and client meetings as needed.
Must be based in the United States and legally authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
Must be able to commute to Morris or Sussex Counties, NJ, for a hybrid schedule.
