We are seeking a Senior Hazardous Materials Professional to join our growing Environmental team in New Haven, Connecticut. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to lead complex hazardous building materials, industrial hygiene, and occupational health and safety projects while serving as a technical mentor and trusted advisor to clients. The successful candidate will play a key role in project delivery, staff development, business growth, and the continued expansion of our Hazardous Materials practice throughout Connecticut and the Northeast.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership and technical oversight for complex hazardous building material, industrial hygiene, and occupational health and safety assessment projects.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams through project planning, execution, and delivery while ensuring technical excellence and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and oversee sampling strategies, field investigation plans, and data collection methodologies.
- Conduct and direct complex field assessments involving hazardous materials, indoor environmental quality, occupational exposures, and regulatory compliance.
- Review and interpret historical environmental and industrial hygiene data to identify risks, data gaps, and project recommendations.
- Provide technical review and quality assurance for environmental and personal sampling programs.
- Establish and maintain quality control procedures for field instrumentation, monitoring equipment, and data collection processes.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for clients, staff, and stakeholders on hazardous materials, industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource plans while maintaining accountability for project profitability and client satisfaction.
- Foster and maintain strong client relationships and support business development initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to corporate health, safety, quality, and risk management programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- 12+ years of relevant consulting or industry experience.
- Professional certifications related to asbestos, lead, and OSHA compliance.
- Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental, hazardous materials, and occupational health regulations.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex projects, budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong technical report writing, communication, and client management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software such as Deltek.
- Ability to travel up to 20% for client meetings, site visits, and business development activities.
- Experience serving as a technical lead or team leader within an environmental consulting environment.
- Existing relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and industry partners throughout Connecticut and the Northeast.
- Experience mentoring and developing technical staff.
