TAMKO Building Products LLC is seeking a Controls Hardware Engineer to support our company’s strategic mission and initiatives by managing, developing, and deploying industrial control system hardware (ICSH) standards for continuous manufacturing processes from a corporate perspective. The position location is flexible with a mix of in-office time, site visits, and time at your home office. TAMKO prefers the incumbent live within 50 miles of a primary TAMKO manufacturing or corporate facility:
Joplin, Missouri;
Phillipsburg, Kansas;
Dallas, Texas;
Tuscaloosa, Alabama; or Frederick, Maryland.

Summary of Essential Job Functions- Conduct business with honesty and integrity.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce Industrial Control System Hardware (ICSH) standards, approved hardware lists, and documentation practices across TAMKO’s operational technology (OT) infrastructure.
- Design and review ICSH installations and hardware documentation to ensure compliance with applicable standards, functional requirements, and industry regulations including IEC, UL, NFPA, and NEMA.
- Assist in the development and review of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and related operational documentation for manufacturing systems.
- Support development and implementation teams by providing technical guidance, functional requirements, and operational documentation for ICSH systems.
- Maintain compliance with TAMKO documentation standards, including use of the AutoCAD vault repository.
- Serve as a technical resource for ICSH by advising, mentoring, and training personnel across the organization.
- Manage and maintain ICSH laboratory environments to ensure effectiveness, reliability, and usability.
- Monitor industry developments, lifecycle status, and obsolescence of ICSH technologies and communicate impacts as appropriate.
- Support manufacturing facilities by assisting with troubleshooting and resolution of OT control system issues.
- Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams and support company strategic initiatives and organizational change efforts.
- Participate in professional development, continuous learning, and initiatives that promote team and cultural health.
- Travel to TAMKO manufacturing facilities and corporate offices up to 30% the first year and up to 20% once established in the role.
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, preferably electrical; or equivalent education and experience.
- 7+ years of experience with control system hardware design, panel design, or electrical system design.
- 3+ years of experience with:
Siemens products such as the S7-1500 series of PLCs, S120 drive systems, or G120 drive systems; process control systems; and motion control systems. - Operating knowledge and use of AutoCAD.
- Experience designing and upkeeping systems for brownfield manufacturing.
- The ability to conduct, or review, load studies, cable sizing, and equipment specifications to meet project demands.
- Proficiency in engineering calculations and an understanding of low to medium voltage systems.
- Familiarity with Arc Flash studies.
- Interpretation and verification of single line drawings.
- 2+ years of experience with: PLC controlled manufacturing systems; instrumentation application and design; and mechanical systems.
- Operating knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical and available symbol libraries.
- Experience with power distribution systems.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee will regularly remain in a stationary position for long periods. The employee will also be required to traverse the office and plant production floors.
