Position Overview

We are actively looking for an Estimating Manager to lead estimates and an estimating team for our Heavy Civil Infrastructure work in TN, KY, MS and surrounding states. You will work with preconstruction and construction leaders, support a variety of self‑performed projects—mass grading, drainage, paving, utilities, earthwork, concrete, asphalt, aviation, rail/transit, reservoirs, and heavy water/wastewater. The role primarily covers cost estimates and proposals for self‑performed work.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead complete estimates for self‑performed construction scopes for design/build, design/bid/build, and EPC projects across heavy civil, highway, bridge, rail/transit, utilities, drainage, aviation.
  • Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of each project and draft a plan of operations that serves as the basis for the estimate.
  • Review and assist with proposals and documentation to prepare cost estimates; analyze all bid and contract documents, home office legal opinions, and develop bid strategies with the proposal team.
  • Conduct site investigations prior to forming a plan of operations to identify problems or unusual conditions.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and collaborate with project managers, design engineers, superintendents, clients, and other district teams to align expectations, phasing, and scheduling tasks.
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments, including new equipment, methods, and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and strategy in subcontractor and vendor selection; lead, train, hire, and develop the estimating team.
  • Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions; consult with owners on issues discovered during bid preparation, design or construction schedule changes.
Qualifications
  • BS in engineering, construction, estimating, or a related field and a minimum of 10 years of estimating infrastructure experience, or equivalent experience; preferred experience with self‑performed construction projects (civil, earthwork, drainage, structural/bridge, grading, concrete, asphalt, underground utilities). If no degree, a minimum of 14 years combined experience in estimating, field construction, or superintendent roles is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading estimates and small estimating teams, including coaching and mentoring.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and familiar with estimating tools; willingness to learn InEight.
  • Strong ability to consult with stakeholders during bid preparation and interface with clients for preconstruction functions.
  • Willingness to travel to site locations for walk‑downs and estimating functions.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication; strong work ethic.
  • Must be located or willing to relocate to Brentwood, TN office; travel as needed to project sites and Kiewit offices.
