Electrical Engineer – PCB Layout
Precision Neuroscience is building a next-generation brain–computer interface (BCI) to heal and empower millions of people living with neurological conditions. Our first product, Layer 7, allows people with severe paralysis to operate digital devices using only their thoughts and opens up new possibilities for daily life.
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer – PCB Layout to translate PCB schematics into manufacturable PCB layouts and coordinate manufacturing and assembly with vendors. In this role you will work on state‑of‑the‑art implantable electronics in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with electronics, micro‑fabrication, and mechanical engineers. This position will be based in our Santa Clara office; we are unable to consider remote workers or individuals who are not legally authorized to work in the US.
Key Responsibilities- Translate electrical schematics and system requirements into manufacturable PCB layouts:
- Perform component placement for signal integrity, thermal performance, manufacturability, and mechanical and assembly constraints
- Route high‑density analog, RF, high‑speed, digital, and power signals according to design rules and best practices
- Generate fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing deliverables including Gerbers, ODB++, IPC‑2581, drill files, pick‑and‑place data, and assembly drawings
- Coordinate with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors on stack‑up, material selection, tolerances, and design‑for‑manufacturing (DFM) reviews
- Maintain PCB libraries including footprints, symbols, and 3D mechanical models
- Document layout guidelines, design decisions, and revision history
- Strong understanding of PCB layout fundamentals and multilayer board design:
- Interpret schematics, mechanical drawings, and manufacturing documentation
- Understand PCB fabrication and assembly processes, tolerances, and limitations
- Design PCB stack‑ups, transmission lines, controlled impedance, and material properties
- Knowledge of IPC standards
- Experience with EMI/EMC mitigation techniques and regulatory considerations
- Experience with Altium Designer
- Experience generating manufacturing outputs and working with fabrication vendors
- Ability to manage multiple board revisions and configuration control processes
- Effective communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills; attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Seven years of experience designing complex, multilayer PCBs; a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field; U.S. legal work authorization required; based in the Santa Clara office (no remote work).
