Position: Environmental Planner New Atwell

Environmental Planner (Midwest)

Atwell, LLC is a leading consulting, engineering, and construction services company with a broad range of creative solutions for real estate & land development, and energy markets. This Environmental Planner role supports our renewable energy practice with emphasis on siting and permitting across the Midwest region. Preferred to be based in the Southfield or Allendale, MI office, remote positions based in the Midwest are also considered.

Responsibilities
  • Support Project Managers in executing renewable energy studies, including critical issues analysis, due diligence, and research of state, county, and local ordinances and site planning approval processes.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, subject matter experts, field technicians, administrative staff and subconsultants to assemble and submit permit applications.
  • Facilitate project meetings and agency coordination.
  • Support development of material for agency meetings, public outreach, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Coordinate project schedules, task tracking, and submittal deadlines.
  • Review reports and interpret environmental impacts to project development.
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks within specific budgets, schedules, and deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in land use planning, natural resource management, environmental policy, or related field.
  • 3‑7+ years of experience performing similar tasks in environmental or renewable energy consulting.
  • Background in researching and interpreting county and local zoning ordinances.
  • Experience preparing special land use and conditional use permits.
  • Knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process preferred.
  • Familiarity with USFWS Land‑Based Wind Energy Guidelines.
  • GIS analysis and mapping skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel occasionally for project needs.
  • Strong communication skills with project teams, clients, and agencies.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay range: $70,000‑$90,000 USD.
