Description
Brown and Caldwell (BC), a 100% employee‑owned environmental engineering firm, is looking for a self‑motivated Senior Civil Engineer to join a growth‑oriented professional consulting firm. We offer a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary environment that develops innovative, cost‑effective designs for new water/wastewater facilities, expansions, upgrades, and retrofits.
Remote work is allowed from Central/Mountain/Pacific time zones; hybrid work is preferred. The ideal candidate will be located near one of our Texas offices (Houston, Dallas, or El Paso). Denver, Boise, or Salt Lake City are also viable locations for hybrid work.
Responsibilities- Plan, design, and create civil engineering plans, specifications, and reports to support project delivery.
- Maintain BC's project management delivery requirements, including the project management plan, quality management plan, BIM execution plan, risk register, design decision log, and change management log.
- Verify compliance with codes, laws, and permits to ensure regulatory adherence.
- Supervise site investigation, subsurface utility engineering, and utility coordination for accurate existing‑condition data.
- Conduct quality control of desktop reviews, design documentation, and existing‑condition base mapping.
- Review geotechnical and survey consultant deliverables for scope compliance and industry standards.
- Provide quality control of consolidated civil design into coherent contract documents.
- Lead construction‑phase services, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, and change‑order directives.
- Supervise cost estimation generation.
- Maintain and communicate project schedules for design and construction.
- Mentor and train less experienced colleagues.
- Collaborate with project leadership to provide effort and schedule estimates for civil‑specific elements.
- Adapt and execute additional assignments as project needs evolve.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge sharing to help less experienced team members grow.
- Direct and organize civil teams to complete multiple tasks.
- Manage team communications effectively.
- Advanced competency in civil engineering theory and practice.
- Work independently, make informed decisions, and solve moderately complex problems.
- Proficient in regulatory expectations and experience with site investigations and project planning.
- Minimum 5 years of civil engineering or related experience.
- Professional license achieved or in progress.
- Experience guiding less experienced colleagues.
- Progress through BC's Subject Matter Specialist framework.
- 10+ years in municipal and/or industrial civil design in water or wastewater.
- Professional engineering license in Texas or eligibility through reciprocity.
- Experience obtaining local/regional permitting agency approvals.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, or Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Basic knowledge of Civil 3D.
- Experience with engineering calculation software (e.g., MathCAD).
- Experience with hydrology and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, Hydraflow).
- Field and construction experience.
- GIS experience.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
Location A: $95,000 – $129,000
Location B: $104,000 – $142,000
Location C: $114,000 – $155,000
