PCT Patent Analyst Mechanical​/Medical Devices

Position Overview

We are looking for a Patent Analyst with a focus in Mechanical Engineering or Medical Devices to join our team. This is an amazing opportunity to put your technical knowledge to use by researching and analysing cutting‑edge technologies  role is a remote independent contractor (1099) supporting our contract with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).

The team has supported the USPTO by providing PCT Chapter I Search and Examination services since 2005. As an independent contractor, you will be responsible for performing a comprehensive search and a written opinion on the patentability of an array of diverse technologies.

• On a weekly basis, accept projects with a defined due date based on your availability and the needs of Clarivate.
• Read a disclosure quickly and understand the technical nuances that may differentiate it from the prior art.
• Perform a comprehensive search to locate the most relevant prior art and provide a logical and complete search history.
• Prepare a written opinion applying the most relevant prior art to the disclosure.
• Maintain proficiency with commercial patent searching databases and other proprietary technical publication databases.
• Stay abreast of best practices and changes to search procedures through self‑directed review of materials provided by Clarivate.
• Maintain consistent timeliness and superior quality of deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with Clarivate’s Code of Business Ethics and Corporate Conduct.

• U.S. citizen or work‑eligible legal resident who has resided in the U.S. for the last two years.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field.
• 1+ year of experience working with patents or in the intellectual property field.
• 1+ year of work experience in the industry or advanced research in a related field.
• Must pass USPTO background check.
• Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
• Previous patent examining or patent searching experience is desirable.
• Highly skilled at developing a search methodology and conducting searches.
• Strong time‑management skills and the ability to complete projects against deadlines.
• Experience with Orbit, Pat Base, Google Scholar or Pat Seer.
• Master’s degree or PhD is a plus.

Flexible work hours. This is a remote position, but all work must be completed in the United States.

US Only. Expected pay is $475 per patent case completed. Individual pay is based upon experience, education, skill, expertise, and relevant factors.
