Job Description
The Applied Mechanics (AM) and Reliability team provides laboratory, simulation, and reliability engineering services to the Commercial and Residential Solutions business units. This position focuses on delivering timely, value‑added solutions to complex engineering problems by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. The lead engineer will track and manage project progress, facilitate open dialogue with contributors, and increase customer experience through proactive engagement and operational excellence using lean principles.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with global AM lab, simulation, and reliability teams to lead integrated solutions for internal and external customers.
- Complete assigned technical projects in a timely manner by leveraging the fundamental physics‑of‑failure approach, advanced engineering tools, and knowledge of product application.
- Drive customer engagement to understand and manage business priorities, and utilize project management and lean tools to create schedules and deliver results.
- Prepare engineering reports that summarize projects, draw conclusions, and make data‑driven recommendations derived from engineering analysis.
- Effectively communicate project status to customers at various levels in the organization by preparing presentations of results.
- Provide insight and recognize opportunities to focus knowledge or process development for TSQ departments.
Partner with others to get work done. Learn quickly when facing new situations. Scan the environment for new technical skills, knowledge, or capabilities that can benefit the business or personal performance. Plan and align your projects to provide timely and innovative solutions to problems.
Flexible Work Schedule – Remote Work Option and Core HoursThis role offers a remote work option up to three days a week with a core hour schedule. You can flex your start and stop times as long as work occurs during core hours of 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent, and four (4)+ years of relevant experience.
- Basic understanding of HVACR application, compressor design, computational modeling and simulation, durability, and reliability.
- Proven track record of applying fundamental engineering principles and creative thinking to drive timely engineering decisions solving complex problems.
- Strong investigative, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective communication skills; exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to develop collaborative relationships.
- Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent, and two (2)+ years of relevant experience.
- Deep knowledge of compressor science, design, failure analysis, vibrations, statistics, engineering analysis, experimental stress analysis, wear, and tribology.
- Hands‑on experience with lab equipment, CAD modeling, FEA simulations, data analysis, and reliability assessment tools (Win Smith, Reliasoft).
- Training and experience in Lean, Six Sigma, and project management tools.
