Director, Supply Chain EngineeringSUMMARY
The Director, Supply Chain Engineering leads the strategy and execution of Industrial Engineering, Network Optimization, Capacity Planning, Automation, and Engineering Governance across Pet Smart's distribution network. This leader develops engineering strategies that improve productivity, scalability, service, and cost performance while supporting long-term business growth. Working closely with Operations, Transportation, Supply Chain Systems, Finance, and IT, the Director delivers innovative engineering solutions that strengthen network performance and operational excellence.
ESSENTIALDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESEngineering Leadership
- Develop and execute the Supply Chain Engineering strategy supporting network growth and operational excellence.
- Lead Industrial Engineering, Network Optimization, Capacity Planning, Automation, and Facility Design functions.
- Establish engineering standards, governance, and best practices that improve consistency, productivity, and scalability.
- Build and develop a high-performing engineering organization through coaching, succession planning, and continuous improvement.
- Lead network design, facility planning, and optimization initiatives that improve throughput, capacity, service levels, and cost performance.
- Develop long-range capacity strategies based on business growth, labor requirements, and operational constraints.
- Support facility startups, expansions, and network redesign initiatives.
- Lead warehouse automation and material handling strategies that improve productivity, safety, and scalability.
- Partner with Supply Chain Systems and IT to successfully implement engineering and automation solutions.
- Sponsor continuous improvement initiatives focused on labor productivity, operational efficiency, and service performance.
- Establish engineering KPIs, scorecards, and analytics that support strategic planning and operational decision-making.
- Develop business cases for automation, facility investments, and network improvements.
- Manage engineering capital priorities in partnership with Finance and business leaders.
- Serve as the engineering advisor to Supply Chain leadership on network strategy, automation, facility design, and operational performance.
- Partner closely with Distribution Operations, Transportation, Inventory Management, Finance, Merchandising, Supply Chain Systems, and IT to align engineering priorities with enterprise objectives.
- Present recommendations, investment opportunities, and engineering insights to executive leadership.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Logistics, Business, or related field required;
Master's preferred. - 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Supply Chain or Industrial Engineering.
- 5+ years leading engineering teams and enterprise operational initiatives.
- Experience supporting large-scale distribution networks, automation, facility design, network optimization, and capacity planning.
- Proven executive communication, financial acumen, stakeholder management, and change leadership skills.
- Professional certifications in Engineering, Supply Chain, Lean, Six Sigma, or Project Management are preferred.
