Mazzetti is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer based in the San Francisco or Sacramento, California areas to serve as a Mechanical lead on large, complex healthcare projects. This role is intended for a seasoned professional who brings deep healthcare expertise, exercises independent technical judgment, and takes full accountability for mechanical system strategy and execution.
As part of Mazzetti’s nationally recognized healthcare-focused MEP Engineering Practice, you will lead system-level decision-making from concept through construction, ensuring quality, constructability, and alignment with client goals. This role combines advanced technical leadership, multidisciplinary coordination, and direct client engagement.

Our team of experts combines technical excellence with a collaborative, client-focused approach to deliver exceptional outcomes.
Core ResponsibilitiesDiscipline Leadership & Technical Authority
- Lead mechanical system strategy and design for healthcare and mission-critical facilities.
- Serve as Mechanical Lead on projects, accountable for scope, schedule alignment, quality, and technical outcomes.
- Establish system selection rationale based on code, energy performance, resiliency, and client operational needs.
- Oversee design quality, conduct peer reviews, and manage risk within the mechanical discipline.
Project Oversight & Decision-Making
- Provide direction to junior and mid-level engineers on system design and documentation.
- Review and approve major design deliverables.
- Guide resolution of complex technical challenges during design and construction phases.
- Ensure alignment with HCAI/OSHPD and healthcare-specific regulatory requirements.
Client & External Engagement
- Lead mechanical coordination meetings with clients, architects, and contractors.
- Represent Mazzetti in technical discussions and presentations.
- Support proposal development and contribute to thought leadership within the healthcare market.
- Mentor engineers and designers, supporting technical growth and career progression.
- Promote best practices across projects and offices.
- Contribute to firm-wide technical standards and innovation initiatives.
This is a hybrid position involving working from home, client site visits in the area up to 1-2 times a week, and being present in our San Francisco or Sacramento, California offices occasionally.
Travel RequirementsUp to 5% locally in the San Francisco Bay or Sacramento areas.
Requirements Education & Experience- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 8+ years of mechanical/HVAC design experience, with significant healthcare expertise.
- Demonstrated experience as Mechanical Lead responsible for full-discipline delivery.
- Deep knowledge of HCAI/OSHPD and healthcare system requirements.
- Advanced HVAC system design knowledge.
- Proficiency in Revit, including oversight and QA/QC of production models.
