Position: Engineer I - Computer or Electrical Engineer

Position Overview

Nuclear (Digital Process System) Engineer I provides support for nuclear site process computers, various plant control and data acquisition systems such as the Distributed I&C System Platform (DICSP), Emergency Response Information system (ERFIS), Operator Aid Computer (OAC), Security Computer system, OSI/PI Systems, Security Event and Information Management System (SIEM), Plant Network System, Emergency Preparedness System (EPNET) and Simulator ERFIS, Process Control System and DICSP system as required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems for digital control and data acquisition systems.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair support, updates, vulnerability patching and back‑ups for various plant digital systems and firewalls.
  • Provide troubleshooting and maintenance support for responsible systems.
  • Provide support to Plant Operations staff on issues with plant digital systems.
  • Work with vendors on hardware/software issues on Plant Process Digital systems.
  • Perform Cyber and DPS reviews for Engineering Change (EC) development.
  • Provide inputs to budgets and long‑range plans.
  • Completes non‑routine technical projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces.
  • Maintain the ability to support cyber‑attack mitigation and incident response.
  • Acquire and maintain the ability to use tools and techniques to physically and logically harden CDAs and networks to reduce vulnerabilities to cyber attack.
  • Plan and execute work orders and work requests through established work management system.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering obtained from an ABET accredited program.
  • A Master 's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • 0-2 years of engineering experience.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrate knowledge of computer networks (Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP/IP, switches, routers, firewalls, etc.).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of operating systems such as Windows 2003, 2008, 2012, Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 10, QNX, Linux.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of OSI/PI historian.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of real time/data acquisition/control systems, including hardware, software, and interfaces.
  • Previous Nuclear Station work experience with Plant Monitoring System, Plant Security Computer, and Cyber Security Defensive Architecture.
  • Ability to read Plant Drawings (Control Wiring Diagrams (CWDs), one‑line diagrams, logic diagrams).
  • Previous Nuclear Cyber Security experience and familiarity with NEI 08-09, NEI 10-04, NEI 10-08, or 10 CFR 73.54 NRC Cyber Rule.
  • Experience related to performing Cyber Security reviews for Plant Engineering Changes.
  • Experience related to performing Cyber Security Threat Vulnerability evaluations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on assigned projects with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of customers in all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to deliver superior results within allocated time through effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, be a self‑starter, exercise flexibility, and take personal responsibility for assigned accountabilities.
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Office/Remote Work Environment – Classified as a hybrid position, on site will be required through initial onboarding and qualification.
  • Flexible work schedule – typically four 10‑hour days, 2 in office and 2 remote.
  • Some travel to other Duke sites, industry sites, and industry conferences/meetings.
  • Occasional off‑hour emergent work required to support plant outages and emergent problems.
Specific Requirements
  • Nuclear Plant unescorted access.
  • This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on‑call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.
