We are seeking a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to support the planning, design, permitting, and execution of complex fiber infrastructure projects across the United States. This is a high-impact role focused on challenging utility routes, railroad crossings, bridge attachments, river crossings, and long-haul fiber deployments supporting data center connectivity. The position is primarily remote with travel as needed to municipalities, regulatory agencies, and project sites.
This role is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges and serving as the technical authority for difficult permitting and jurisdictional issues. You will work directly with municipalities, regulatory agencies, utility owners, and internal teams to establish engineering standards, support vendors, and guide project execution from feasibility through construction and closeout. The position offers significant autonomy, visibility, and influence across large-scale fiber infrastructure initiatives.
RequiredSkills & Experience
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- 10+ years of civil engineering experience
- Strong understanding of civil engineering regulations, permitting processes, and jurisdictional requirements
- Experience working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
- Experience working with Departments of Environmental Protection (DEP) and similar regulatory agencies
- Knowledge of both underground and aerial utility infrastructure
- Experience supporting railroad crossings, bridge attachments, and river crossings
- Experience with long-haul fiber network projects
- Experience supporting fiber infrastructure serving data centers
- Ability to review engineering submissions and provide technical guidance
- Strong communication skills with the ability to navigate challenging conversations with municipalities and regulatory agencies
- Ability to travel as needed
- Must be a licensed Professional Engineer
- Previous experience supporting large-scale telecommunications or fiber infrastructure projects
- Experience developing engineering standards, guidelines, and design criteria
- Experience leading or mentoring drafting and design teams

- Conduct feasibility studies and site evaluations for proposed fiber routes
- Review engineering designs, drawings, and permitting submissions
- Engage directly with municipalities, jurisdictions, regulatory agencies, and utility owners
- Support vendors through permitting and engineering challenges
- Develop engineering standards, guidelines, and design criteria for complex projects
- Provide technical leadership for difficult routing scenarios including railroad crossings, river crossings, and bridge attachments
- Research civil codes and jurisdictional requirements for challenging locations
- Guide internal drafting and design teams to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
- Coordinate with agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, DEP, and Fish & Wildlife organizations
- Support construction teams by providing engineering guidance and resolving field issues
- Conduct site visits as required to support permitting, construction, and stakeholder engagement
- Review as-built documentation and ensure engineering compliance throughout project completion
