About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a Test Engineer to join our Power T&D team, supporting the delivery of works across the DNO North – Faults and Services portfolio based in Leeds.
This role is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient execution of fault location, commissioning and testing activities across underground cable systems and associated infrastructure. You will play a key role in supporting operational delivery, maintaining compliance with client specifications, and upholding the highest standards of health, safety and quality.
What you'll be doing- Carrying out EHV/LV commissioning and testing on underground cables and associated systems
- Supporting fault location activities across the DNO network
- Ensuring all testing activities comply with national standards, legislation and client requirements
- Producing and reviewing risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
- Preparing and completing test documentation in line with company procedures
- Managing and coordinating test equipment, including calibration and site readiness
- Working closely with project teams, clients and subcontractors to ensure efficient delivery
- Proven experience within the power or utilities sector
- Strong understanding of EHV/LV cable testing and commissioning
- Relevant certifications such as:
- BESC (Underground Cables / Substations / OHL)
- National Grid Competent Person (NSI 6 &
8) - CCNSG Safety Passport
- Good working knowledge of health & safety regulations (CDM)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Full UK driving licence
