Overview
A remote New Product Hardware Engineering Lead position in the Critical Item Production Readiness (CPR) Department of Raytheon, focused on ensuring design manufacturability, producibility, and supplier readiness throughout the project lifecycle.
Requires an active, transferable U.S. government‑issued Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship. The role is remote and based in the U.S. (Arizona, but work performed remotely).
Responsibilities- Identify and drive Critical Item and Technology (CIT) action plans to closure throughout hardware development.
- Lead implementation of NPI requirements including Design‑to‑Cost, Design for Excellence/Producibility, prototyping, and supplier technical risk mitigation.
- Develop and document the Producibility and Prototyping strategy within the Hardware Development Plan.
- Ensure timely and effective execution of Producibility, Prototyping, and Supplier Technical Support activities during development and early production.
- Support or facilitate DFMA workshops to identify Cost Reduction Opportunities and drive execution of Cost Reduction Initiatives.
- Baseline and monitor risks and opportunities related to predictive manufacturing yield, cost, and throughput using Valor DFM, PCAT Pro, DFMPro, Siemens VSA, CETOL, and other hardware optimization tools.
- Drive identification of Critical and Key Characteristics and implement/manage production Control Plans to manage technical risks.
- Ensure robust supplier capability assessments, supplier selection, technical requirements understanding, and production readiness.
- Conduct onsite supplier visits, drive clear communication, resolve supplier requests and manufacturing defects, and review lessons learned.
- Serve as the liaison among CPR Section Leaders, Program CEs, IPTLs, Producibility Engineers, and cross‑functional teams for alignment and execution.
- Collaborate with CE, IPTLs, and REAs to prepare for NPI assessments and manage associated actions.
- Compile producibility artifacts, generate memos, and present producibility analysis to customers as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM and 8 years of professional engineering experience, or an advanced degree with 5 years of experience.
- Minimum five years of experience in hardware development, sourcing, manufacturing process development, and production support for new hardware designs.
- Working knowledge of the hardware engineering development process for defense products.
- Experience in risk and opportunity management, including development and execution of effective handling plans.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship required; willingness to travel to suppliers.
- Experience executing across the full development lifecycle, including independent development and execution of robust engineering and producibility plans.
- Knowledge of producibility engineering, early production, and supplier management requirements including SSOWs.
- Understanding of AS9145 Advanced Product Quality Planning.
- Background in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
- Background in Design to Unit Production Cost (DTUPC).
