Job Description

We are seeking a Fire Protection Engineer responsible for developing comprehensive fire protection engineering designs, including conceptual layouts, basis-of-design documentation, water supply and hydraulic analyses, and detailed plans for fire sprinkler and suppression systems, fire pumps, and fire alarm systems.

This position can be based out of any U.S. based office and offers a hybrid work environment that allows employees to balance office time with remote work from home.

  • Act as the Qualified Fire Protection Engineer (QFPE) for federal projects, providing life safety, fire suppression, and fire alarm analysis and design.
  • Review draft designs to ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations and sign off on completed designs.
  • Perform additional duties of basic to high complexity as needed, including egress analysis, fire separation requirements, fire hazard analysis, water supply evaluations, and insurance provider recommendations.
  • Evaluate systems utilizing HydraCAD, HydraCALC, or similar software.
  • Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals for RFPs and review proposed documents for adherence to firm, industry, state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Meet with current and potential clients to review their design needs.
  • Conduct site assessments and studies to ensure designs align with industry standards and local requirements.
  • Attend conferences, symposia, and similar events to enhance the visibility of the firm’s products and services in collaboration with sales staff.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff, mentor them for growth, and may supervise the work of junior engineers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • 7 years of related experience or equivalent directly related experience considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in Fire Protection.
  • Experience with UFC criteria for federal work.
  • Experience with FM Global datasheet requirements and other insurance provider requirements.
  • Experience designing suppression systems (wet‑pipe, dry‑pipe, preaction, deluge, foam, clean agent), fire alarm/mass notification systems, smoke control systems, fire pumps, and water storage tanks.
  • Experience with life safety requirements, building code analysis, passive fire protection systems, and performance‑based designs.
Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of computer‑assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
  • Expert knowledge of engineering principles of design.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
