The City of Saint Paul’s Department of Public Works Sewer Utility is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to provide support to sewer engineering, technical direction, and related administrative work in the support of the Public Works Sewer Utility Sewer Maintenance Section.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement process improvements for sewer maintenance.
- Function as technical lead and emergency management representative for flood preparations, readiness planning, and events.
- Manage sewer buildings, specialized equipment, and vehicles.
- Monitor and assist with the management of the sewer maintenance operational budget.
- Perform independent professional engineering on sewer infrastructure planning, design, rehabilitation, repair, and replacement projects.
- Plan and manage sewer capital improvement and maintenance projects including the preparation of plans, project bidding documents, engineer’s estimates, and construction administration.
- Prepare and review traffic control plans for major projects and events.
- Provide backup support for the sewer design engineer.
- Represent the Sewer Utility at internal and external meetings with elected officials, households/businesses, the public, and stakeholders.
- Research, review, and analyze sewer records, videos, and databases.

This position will be located at 419 Burgess St., Saint Paul, MN, working the hours of 7:30am - 4:00pm, on-site, with required daily on‑site presence and minimal opportunity for remote work. This position requires availability to work outside regular hours whenever critical deadlines and/or emergencies arise.

Must possess and maintain licensure in the State of Minnesota as a Professional Civil Engineer, and four years of civil engineering experience, at least two years of which must be as a Civil Engineer II or equivalent. Licensure as a Professional Civil Engineer is required by date of appointment. Licensure as a Professional Civil Engineer within the State of Minnesota is required within six months of appointment.
