Bridge Inspection Team Leader; Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking a motivated Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor to take on the role of Bridge Inspection Team Leader. Here, you will have the opportunity to provide guidance and direction for a team tasked with keeping complex bridge systems safe, well‑maintained, and dependable.

This position leads a bridge inspection team that evaluates bridge structures to ensure they meet important safety standards. Your work will focus on inspecting bridge components, documenting findings, and coordinating field operations. As a Bridge Inspection Team Leader, you will perform the following duties:

• Team Supervision:
  Direct inspection staff and oversee daily inspection activities
• Bridge Inspection:
  Examine bridge structures, components, and safety features for damage or deterioration
• Record Management:
  Maintain accurate inspection reports, forms, photos, and field sketches
• Field Coordination:
  Arrange equipment, permits, and access needs with maintenance units and railroads
• Safety Oversight:
  Promote safe work practices and monitor conditions at inspection sites
• Staff Development:
  Provide training, guidance, and performance evaluations for assigned staff

• Full‑time employment
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch
• Telework:
  May work from home part‑time, subject to change. Must have securely configured high‑speed internet within Pennsylvania. If unable to telework, may report to headquarters in Indiana.
• Salary:
  Starting annual salary of $51,971.00 (before taxes) for new Commonwealth employees
• Additional communication will be provided via email

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as a Transportation Construction Inspector (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title), or
• Two years of construction inspection experience and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or closely related engineering technology; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

• This position requires meeting the qualifications for a bridge inspection team leader as defined by the current National Bridge Inspection Standards
• Possession of a valid non‑commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent

• Must meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement
• Must be able to perform essential job functions
