Job Title: Engineer I, R&D Technology

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Engineering

Reports to: Director, R&D

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE

The Engineer I, R&D Technology is responsible for performing research and testing related to R&D projects. This position requires a very developed technical background with the ability to integrate software, firmware, mechanical, electrical, and imaging technology.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Research
  • Evaluate and analyze positive and negative aspects of competing technologies or solutions
  • Grow industry expertise through trade show attendance, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications
  • Generate new research ideas in line with company growth areas
Testing
  • Work in local and remote locations including research facilities, field offices, and railroad environments
  • Conduct all tests in accordance with company and railroad safety operating procedures
  • Assess system performance, prepare written and oral reports, optimize accordingly and make recommendations for future enhancements

Flex Work Eligible! This position qualifies for the Flexible Work Policy. Employees receive 30 work days annually to work from home! The initial amount of days is prorated for the first year based on start date.

Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Bachelors degree in engineering field
  • Experience: 0+ years of experience and ability to learn various computer operating systems, computer programming languages and environments, and data analysis software used in nuclear, electrical, and mechanical engineering fields.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Maintain Railroad Certifications
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Self-starting individual that can work both independently and within team
    • Excellent technical writing skills
    • Energy and enthusiasm
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience: Engineering internship
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • The subject’s name must correspond to their Social Security number and date of birth.
  • A nationwide, federal, and state criminal background check will be conducted. Up to a seven-year history will be considered, including incarceration or court supervision. Findings will be reviewed relative to the position requirements.
  • Current and prior relevant employment experience will be verified to confirm the candidate meets the minimum required years of experience for the position.
  • Post-secondary education at the associate degree level or higher will be verified, including degree(s) earned and dates of completion.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check will be conducted upon hire and annually thereafter in accordance with Loram’s Driving Policy.
  • All applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment drug. Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-incident drug and/or alcohol testing in compliance with federal regulations and company policy. Corporate non safety applicants are subject to drug test.
