Leadership Role in Engineering
This leadership role oversees a talented engineering team responsible for maintaining and optimizing SCADA systems and data communication networks that support reliable water and wastewater operations across multiple districts. You'll guide Instrumentation & Controls Engineers, lead high-level technical projects, and champion best practices in process control while coaching and developing your team. The position also manages contractor work, supports automation standards, and builds strong partnerships with Operations and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
What you'd be responsible for:
Provide leadership to engineering team responsible for maintaining and optimizing SCADA systems and data communication networks and ensure secure and reliable operations across water and wastewater facilities in the Central Operations District.
- Lead and supervise the work of Instrumentation & Controls Engineers, including monitoring the progress of project status, software development and system troubleshooting. Champion team standards and industry best practices in process control systems (such as ISA-101) and serve as a resource for their implementation. Coach team members with appropriate feedback on projects and work styles.
- Act as a technical expert. This role may be responsible for and/or assigned specific higher-level projects. Lead and train new and existing employees on EPCOR automation standards for Water and Waste Water control systems.
- Manage contractor projects for installation of process control equipment including scoping and bidding of work. Balance simultaneous contractor projects at multiple sites and across water systems.
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships with Operations, contractors, and stakeholders to facilitate successful delivery of varied initiatives.
- Effectively lead the team by holding routine one-on-one meetings, approving timecards, expense reports and coaching them through the annual performance review process.
- Work with controls staff & production personnel implementing appropriate policies, standards, practices, and guidelines for all phases of process control system implementation and maintenance in alignment with program strategic direction.
What's required to be successful:
- Requires a 4-year degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered.
- 8 + years of progressively responsible experience in SCADA systems or OT Cyber Security Systems focused on design, programming and implementation that includes 1 year of experience.
- Managing teams working on complex technical applications (regulated-industry experience is preferred).
- Requires proficiency in Allen-Bradley PLC's.
- Able to program AOI's and UDT's from scratch.
- Skilled in Aveva System Platform and OMI.
- Hands-on experience with communication networks, telemetry integration, and VLAN technologies.
- Requires knowledge of business applications,
- Microsoft Office products and productivity tools (e.g. MS Word, Excel, One Note).
- Requires strong management skills.
- Must have valid driver's license with good driving record.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional standing and walking/getting up and down throughout shift during breaks
- Ability to sit for long periods of time; up to 8 hours each day
- Ability to view/work at a computer for long periods of time; up to 8 hours each day
- Reaching with hands and arms
- Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs
- Using both hands for simple and firm grasping
- Fine finger manipulation; keyboard and mobile phone skills

- Vision abilities: close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus
Travel Requirement:
Occasional travel is required to facilities outside the Phoenix-metro area.
