Position Overview

Leidos Engineering is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to review civil and structural designs of new and existing power generation projects – including wind, solar, hydro, battery energy storage, and thermal projects – as an Independent Engineer. The candidate will support project managers during transactional due diligence reviews and provide Owner’s Engineering and advisory support.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Support project managers during transactional due diligence.
  • Apply subject matter expertise in civil and structural design, review of EPC contract specifications, review of drawings and calculations prepared by others.
  • Provide Owner’s Engineering and advisory support.
  • Assist the team in managing projects, developing sales proposals, and technology reviews.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work Arrangement & Location

Hybrid: at least three days per week in‑office at a Leidos managed location. Remote work considered on a case‑by‑case basis. Ideal candidates located within commuting distance of Denver, CO or Framingham, MA.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering with 4+ years of experience on industrial, power delivery, or power generation project design or comparable experience.
  • Design experience with increasing responsibility.
  • Team player with strong communication skills with internal staff and external stakeholders.
  • Experience providing high‑level reviews of engineer finite element analysis models, hand and software calculations, design drawing packages, and overall design methodology, including peer reviews and conformance to industry standards and design codes.
  • Competent with governing design codes such as IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, AISI, and others; familiarity with international codes is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe/Bluebeam.
  • Familiar with structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD, RISA 3D);
    MathCAD, AutoCAD, and other software are a plus.
  • Self‑starter able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet client deadlines on multiple projects under pressure, including work with private equity, infrastructure and hedge funds, investment and commercial banks, private developers, legal and financial advisors, OEMs, DOE, and EIA.
  • Ability to manage schedule commitments across multiple project reviews.
  • Willingness to travel for project site visits; international travel possible.
  • Ability to work extended hours when required.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active FE/EIT certification with aspiration to obtain professional engineering licensure.
  • Active professional engineer (PE) license.
  • Master’s degree in civil or structural engineering.
  • Licensed structural engineer (SE).
  • Field engineering experience during construction of projects.
  • Spanish language speaking and reading skills.
  • Familiarity with large construction projects – industrial, large commercial, mechanical, and electrical systems, and/or electrical transmission and distribution.
  • Experience in designing power generation projects, including natural gas combined and simple cycle, wind turbine foundations, solar racking/trackers and pile foundations, and rooftop solar systems.
  • Familiarity with review of construction specifications and submittals.
  • Familiarity with construction documentation such as ECNs, CDs, RFIs, and NCRs.
