Senior Mechanical Engineer – Buildings + Places

Location:

Burnaby(based out of Burnaby with hybrid work opportunities).Travel to nearby cities may be required.

• Preparing deliverables and products such as calculations, drawings, specifications, and selections related to heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.
• Performing field investigation for incorporating existing conditions into construction documents.
• Performing construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review, RFI response, construction inspection, and responding to client questions.
• Working within a project team environment and possessing positive presentation and client interface skills.
• Coordinating work with other project disciplines.
• Working independently and making technical mechanical decisions based on building code, industry standards and company standard practice.
• Demonstrating creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery, technical and client challenges, determining technical objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for technical activities and applications.
• Staying abreast of industry standards and approaches, and best practices.
• Ensuring project work is undertaken in accordance with corporate health and safety policies and quality management systems. Mentoring junior staff.
• Performing assignments of limited scope and complexity. Uses a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in solving problems.
• Assisting more senior level engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed analysis, design, or computation methods.
• Applying standard practices and techniques in specific situations. Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well‑defined procedures.

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus six (6) years’ experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities, such as Water/Waste‑water treatment plants.
• Professional Engineer in British Columbia.

Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

• Prefer 10 (ten) years’ experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities, such as Water/Waste‑water treatment plants.
• Working experience with NBC, BCBC, BCPC, SMACNA, ASHRAE codes and standards.
• Experience using HAP, AutoCAD, REVIT, Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with Building Energy Modeling and their software platforms (IES, eQuest, Energy Plus, HOT
  2000, RETScreen, etc.) would be considered an asset.
• Experience with sustainability standards (LEED, Net Zero, Passive House, Envision) would be considered an asset.
• Fire protection design experience.
• Familiarity with ISO quality management system.
• Experience working within internal multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communications.
