Civil Roadway Engineer I – Transportation Infrastructure – Corona, California
In this role, you will be engaged in design engineering work and contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects in the Inland Empire area and Southern California region. The engineer at this level is in a developmental mode, being trained under close supervision in the utilization of engineering theories and practices while gaining exposure to company and industry procedures.
You will be part of a team which primarily supports Caltrans projects and works on various projects with the regional transportation planning agencies, counties, cities, and transit agencies. The position is office based but offers a hybrid work model (2 days working from home).
- Utilizing a foundation of gained experience, perform various roadway engineering and design assignments requiring the application of engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity.
- Utilize drafting and 3D modeling software, tools, and programs to develop conceptual and detailed designs. Proficient design work with Micro Station and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Perform basic geometric alignments and design for various road and highway projects, inclusive of ramp ways and interchanges.
- Perform design calculations including material quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates.
- Assist in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications for assigned projects.
- Assist in the preparation of detailed requisitions for material purchase, services, and subcontracts.
- Assist in reviewing supplier drawing submittals and technical bid analyses.
- Provide input to CAD Designer/Drafters working on the same project.
- Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field).
- 3 years or more of related work experience supporting any state DOT highway projects.
- Experience with Caltrans projects in the State of California is desirable, but not required.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate is preferred.
- Proficiency in utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station, and InRoads.
- The ability to communicate and effectively participate as part of an engineering team.
