Position OverviewKiewit is hiring Senior level and Lead Architects to deliver design solutions for industrial buildings across multiple market sectors. In this role, you will work within the Kiewit Architect and Engineering Group as part of a project team leading and overseeing building architectural design for various types of buildings and facilities. This includes advanced technology, data centers, nuclear buildings, hospitals, water/wastewater treatment, large office buildings, university buildings, manufacturing, transportation structures, and industrial process buildings.
You will manage fast‑paced projects, coordinating with in‑house project engineers and contractors to execute building estimates, conceptual designs, and construction documents.
Kiewit Architectural & Engineering (KAE) delivers fully integrated design and engineering solutions for complex infrastructure, energy and building programs. The team provides coordinated Progressive Design Build, Engineering Procurement Construction and other alternative delivery models, reducing risk, accelerating delivery, and driving innovative, cost‑effective outcomes.
LocationThis position may be based out of our Lenexa, KS, Lone Tree CO, or Houston TX offices. Opportunities for flexible/hybrid work are available for the Lone Tree and Houston campuses only. We offer relocation to our Lenexa Kansas Industrial headquarters only. For highly skilled individuals with considerable industrial experience, remote work options will be considered for Dallas TX and Seattle WA locations if the individual already resides there.
Responsibilities- Be a self‑starter, run a team/project, help set up offices for remote locations, and serve as a mentor to junior architects.
- Complete life safety and code analysis by reviewing codes and standards, coordinating with authorities having jurisdiction, and communicating findings with the team.
- Manage architectural design for buildings, balancing aesthetics, function, cost and ensuring compliance with Kiewit standards while maintaining budget and schedule.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, security, and telecommunications—to deliver integrated building designs.
- Assist in technical bid analysis reviews during bid periods and determine practicality of submittals.
- Provide alternative recommendations regarding project budgets, construction costs during value engineering.
- Maintain project schedules, direct and manage the architectural team, and mentor entry‑level staff. Understand workflow for estimation, bidding, and construction in EPC and Design‑Build environments.
- Produce architectural designs using Revit, check and navigate Navisworks for interference, perform construction administration activities, and field work as needed.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture from a NAAB accredited program. Registered Architect with a current license is required for a Senior/Lead role.
- NCARB certification strongly preferred.
- Minimum 10+ years of architectural design experience in a highly matrixed, multidisciplinary A/E firm or GC, performing the functions outlined above. Consider all building types except residential and commercial.
- Experience with data center, server rooms, unique ventilation and cooling systems, pre‑engineered metal buildings, modular construction, federal/military, aviation, sports, nuclear facilities, hospitals. Experience with all project design phases from concept to construction and coordinating with MEP and structural engineers.
- Experience sequencing deliverables and producing waterfall schedules.
- Experience writing specifications, supporting bid analysis reviews, performing budget and schedule reviews, and providing value engineering.
- Proficient in Revit, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Navisworks, and scheduling/budget software.
