QualificationsJob Summary :
Specify, design, troubleshoot, and seek opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation of the Midrex proprietary equipment for the start-up and operation of Direct Reduced Iron making plants and new technology initiatives.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Senior Equipment Engineers act as equipment discipline leads providing technical support for various projects and initiatives. Senior Equipment Engineers will not have direct reports but will assign work to other engineers and designers.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform designs and mechanical analyses through calculations basic to Mechanical Engineering.
- Sketch conceptual designs, transferring ideas to the designers for development of mechanical drawings.
- Coordinate the mechanical equipment design effort by acting as Lead Equipment Engineer for projects by:
- directing the efforts of assigned engineers and designers for the layout and design of equipment,
- checking mechanical equipment drawings, calculations, and sketches for the project,
- developing specifications and requisitions for support of purchasing effort,
- review and approve purchasing quotations, vendor drawings, and QA documents,
- coordinate tasks and design interfaces with outside engineering consultants and clients,
- coordinate project tasks while meeting the project schedule and engineering hour budget, and
- travel for project meetings, inspections, on-site training of plant staff for proprietary equipment, and extended stays at the project site during commissioning and start up.
- Provide technical support for the Aftermarket, Inspections, and Purchasing departments with review of proposals, vendor submittals, and on-site inspections of mechanical equipment.
- Coordinate long-term design cycles and schedules.
- Provide direction, technical support, and mentoring for other engineers and designers.
- Analyze designed and vendor supplied equipment for adherence to engineering specifications, required codes & standards, and project requirements.
- Check drawings and drafting for adherence to designs.
- Use Innovation Engineering, New Technology programs, and Technical Improvement initiatives to develop new and improved designs and foster continuous improvement and innovation.
- Review designs and assist other Engineers and Management by making suggestions to improve an existing or proposed design relative to its function.
- Travel to fabrication facilities and plant sites to analyze equipment, collect data and information, interact with plant and fabricator personnel, perform on-site inspections and gain experience valuable to design considerations (i.e., operating conditions, temperature considerations, etc.).
