Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Data Center Mechanical Engineer (CFD)

About the Opportunity

An established engineering consultancy delivering complex mission‑critical infrastructure projects is looking to expand its specialist mechanical engineering team. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer with experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) who enjoys solving challenging thermal and airflow problems within high‑performance data centre environments.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary design team, you'll contribute to the development and optimisation of cooling strategies for both existing and next‑generation facilities. The role offers the chance to work on technically demanding projects while enjoying flexible working arrangements, including fully remote options for the right individual.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Build and validate CFD models to assess airflow and thermal performance within mission‑critical facilities.
  • Carry out simulations covering air movement, heat transfer, pressure profiles and liquid cooling applications.
  • Evaluate cooling system performance across both internal IT spaces and external plant areas.
  • Assess environmental influences such as prevailing wind conditions, air recirculation and external heat impacts.
  • Translate simulation outputs into practical engineering recommendations that improve efficiency, resilience and operational performance.
  • Work alongside mechanical, electrical and architectural teams to influence design decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Produce clear technical documentation, reports and presentations outlining modelling methodology, assumptions and findings.
  • Assist in refining cooling concepts, equipment arrangements and containment strategies to maximise system performance.
  • Develop and maintain reusable CFD templates, equipment libraries and modelling standards.
  • Ensure engineering solutions align with recognised industry guidance and best practice for mission‑critical facilities.
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Around 5+ years’ experience carrying out CFD analysis within a building services, HVAC or mission‑critical environment.
  • Experience using CFD software such as Cadence or similar industry‑standard modelling platforms.
  • Understanding of data centre cooling systems, including air‑ and water‑based solutions.
  • Knowledge of HVAC principles, thermodynamics, fluid flow and heat transfer.
  • Comfortable interpreting engineering drawings, layouts and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple modelling activities simultaneously.
  • Confident communicating technical findings to both engineering and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with recognised standards relating to mission‑critical facility design is advantageous.
Desirable Experience
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) status.
  • Previous involvement in hyperscale, colocation or other mission‑critical infrastructure projects.
  • Exposure to high‑density computing environments or liquid cooling technologies.
What’s on Offer
  • Competitive salary ranging from $100,000–$180,000, depending on experience.
  • Fully remote working available for qualified candidates (company headquarters based in New York City).
  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage.
  • Generous paid time off and additional employee benefits.
  • Long‑term career progression within a growing specialist engineering team.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting‑edge data centre projects using advanced simulation and engineering technologies.
  • Collaborative, technically focused culture with significant investment in employee development.
