Specialty Mechanical Equipment Engineer – Oak Ridge (Hybrid/Remote)

Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Specialty Mechanical Equipment Engineer knowledgeable in specialty machinery design to support our Nuclear Projects – Oak Ridge Group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop specialized mechanical equipment and select machine elements (bearings, seals, etc.) and controls (hydraulic, electrical, etc.).
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget for individual projects.
  • Perform complex mechanical calculations and review calculations of others.
  • Mentor specialty mechanical engineers and designers.
  • Communicate complex ideas to management and clients.
  • Ensure that all work is completed under established quality procedures and quality systems such as ISO
    9000 or NQA‑1.
  • Competently use discipline‑specific technical software (SOLIDWORKS, Creo, ANSYS, etc.) and Microsoft Office.
Qualifications
  • 15 or more years of experience designing and managing specialty mechanical equipment.
  • B.S. Engineering from an ABET‑accredited engineering school.
  • Knowledge of machine design, selection of machine elements, and machine controls.
  • Experience managing scope, schedule, and budget of individual projects.
  • Ability to follow established Amentum quality procedures.
  • Experience working within a quality system based on ISO
    9000 or NQA‑1.
  • US citizenship required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS, Creo, ANSYS, and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • DOE Q clearance is preferred but not required.
  • Residency within commuting distance of Oak Ridge, TN.
Essential Functions and

Physical Requirements

Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting (≤20lb). Requires hand manipulation, fine manipulation, and occasional work above or below shoulder height. May involve work near construction site equipment, hazardous equipment, chemical exposure, noise, temperature extremes, or uneven ground. Occasional travel may be required.

Equipment & Travel

Standard office PC with required software will be provided. Travel is required as needed.

Compensation

Annual base salary range: $150,000–$200,000. Compensation may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, and market data.
