We are seeking a Plumbing Designer to join our Northern California team, based in either San Francisco or Sacramento, CA. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of plumbing and fire protection systems for a wide variety of project types while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams throughout Northern California.
Whether you're beginning your consulting engineering career or bringing years of plumbing design experience, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and designers on meaningful, technically challenging projects while continuing to grow your expertise.
Core Responsibilities- Assist with or lead the design of plumbing and fire protection systems for healthcare, science & technology, higher education, infrastructure, commercial, and other complex building projects, depending on experience.
- Prepare plumbing system layouts, equipment selections, calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
- Develop plumbing system designs using Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and other design software.
- Coordinate plumbing systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and specialty disciplines.
- Review engineering drawings and technical documentation for quality, constructability, and code compliance appropriate to experience level.
- Apply applicable building codes, industry standards, and Mazzetti quality expectations throughout project delivery.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, contractors, vendors, and clients throughout all phases of project delivery.
- Participate in multidisciplinary coordination meetings and design reviews.
- Support construction administration by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, participating in field observations, and resolving design questions during construction.
- Contribute to successful project delivery by supporting schedule, quality, and client expectations.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams across Mazzetti offices.
- Learn from experienced plumbing engineers and designers through mentorship and project collaboration.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing across the Plumbing discipline.
- As experience grows, provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
This is a hybrid position based in either the San Francisco or Sacramento, CA areas, involving primarily working from home, client site visits throughout Northern California, and occasional presence in our San Francisco or Sacramento offices as needed for project collaboration and team‑building activities.
Travel RequirementsApproximately 10‑15% travel, primarily within the Northern California region based on project assignments.
Requirements Education & Experience- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent plumbing design experience.
- 0+ years of plumbing design experience within the AEC consulting industry.
- Experience with, or a strong interest in, healthcare and other complex building projects is preferred.
- Experience preparing construction documents and coordinating multidisciplinary building systems is preferred.
- Strong interest in building systems design and ongoing professional development.
- Knowledge of plumbing and fire protection building systems appropriate to experience level.
- Familiarity with applicable plumbing codes and industry standards.
- Experience with or willingness to learn Revit, AutoCAD, and/or Bluebeam.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
