About the role
Balfour Beatty Power T&D are looking for an Engineering Manager focused on one of their major National Grid Projects - Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement Project.
Role Purpose
Accountable for engineering intent and integration of design and construction methodologies on a live project, acting as the central point within Design and Construction.
Leads the design–construction interface to ensure solutions are safe by design, buildable, coordinated and assured, and that engineering decisions support programme, cost and risk outcomes.
Site based role (3 days / week) - East Anglia.
What you'll be doingKey Accountabilities
- Own engineering intent on the project and maintain continuity from design development through construction delivery.
- Lead integration of permanent works, temporary works and construction sequencing; chair constructability/engineering reviews.
- Assure compliance with CDM and engineering governance requirements; implement safe-by-design and assurance activities.
- Provide engineering leadership for site-driven changes, constraints and unforeseen conditions; manage technical risk escalation.
- Operate engineering change control: evaluate options, document decisions, secure approvals and communicate impacts.
- Support construction delivery with timely engineering decisions, coordinated information release and closure of design queries.
- Coordinate discipline leads and temporary works stakeholders to resolve cross-discipline clashes and ambiguities.
- Lead client technical interface on site for engineering matters, demonstrating control and confidence in engineering readiness.
- Promote continuous improvement: reduce rework, improve right-first-time outcomes and strengthen buildability.
Interfaces
- Operations and Construction teams (delivery design planning, buildability, site queries)
- Design disciplines (permanent works) including civil, mechanical, electrical, EICA/systems
- Temporary Works designers / coordinators (interfaces, sequencing, risk ownership)
- Client technical and operational representatives (acceptance, assurance, governance)
- Work Winning / Bid team and Commercial (solution shaping, clarifications, change control)
Decision Rights / Level of Autonomy
- Responsible for engineering decisions affecting site safety, buildability and sequencing
- Responsible to reject unsafe/unbuildable proposals and escalate out-of-scope risk to senior engineering leadership.
- Approves engineering responses to site queries and coordinates acceptance routes with client assurance requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline;
Chartered or working towards professional registration. - Proven experience integrating design and construction on complex projects.
- Strong working knowledge of CDM and engineering assurance practices.

- Advanced construction interface capability: sequencing, buildability, temporary works integration.
- Strong judgement and decision-making under time pressure; calm, visible leadership on site.
- Excellent stakeholder management across construction, operations, design disciplines and client teams.
- Clear communication of engineering intent and rationale to technical and non-technical audiences.
